This is absolutely disgusting. Don’t hate on others belief. I am absolutely shocked that this came up on my dash and am utterly heartbroken that someone went to all the effort of creating this image.
This isn’t hating on beliefs. In ALL OTHER ASPECTS OF LIFE, truth seeking is accepted and normal…yet if we apply the same logic to religion, it is somehow considered hate. By this logic, suggesting that the earth isn’t 6 thousand years old is hating on Fundamentalist Christians. Study after study have PROVED that prayer is ineffective. If finding out that something you believe in or support offends you, you should probably take a good, hard look at yourself.
This image doesn’t say a single thing about religious people. It doesn’t call Christians bad, evil, mean, horrible, stupid, etc. It it not offensive at all, nor is it hateful.
Frankly, I am sick of seeing anything that challenges the idea of religion being labeled as such. We are allowed to challenge each other’s political, social, and philosophical ideas. Religion shouldn’t be exempt from this. Imagine what would have happened to this world if scientists stopped researching certain things in the name of “not being offensive to the beliefs of others”.
Can we stop holding religion to some crazy standard and just treat it like another belief system? Something that SHOULD be challenged and explored so long as one is not personally attacking those who believe in it.
As for those “offensive” scientific studies proving that prayer does not work

Tumblr. If the truth is offensive to you, you are doing it wrong. If you are so obsessed with your belief system that you attack ANYBODY who disagrees with you, you are doing it wrong.
I couldn’t have said this any better, kudo’s to stickingupforsammy. I’ve had this fight constantly with people.
Ha. This is absolutely amazing. I totally agree!! Love it.
Ohmygosh, seriously? I’m not religious, but I don’t believe it can be PROVED that prayers don’t work. When I passed my finals my grandmother went all “ohmygosh you totally passed cuz I was praying for you day and night to pass!” and I was like “….wow, good to know it was thanks to your mumbo-jumbo and not, I dunno, my hard work and studying?”. But then it went to “yeah see, you were working so hard BECAUSE I was praying for you to!”. Uh, and maybe because I wanted to pass and just told myself to study and I DID IT? “No, no, see, you had strength to do what you wanted to do cause I was totally praying to God and he gave you that strength and whatever!”
Can you imagine how PISSED being a teenager that obviously knew everything I was when someone told me all my hard work wasn’t something I earned myself, but through my grandmother and only thanks to God? All my family believed it too cause my family is crazy. But whatever our common sense tells us here, you CAN’T physically prove that I’d pass the exams or “find the strength to work hard” or some other shit if my grandmother wasn’t praying for me. You can study 10000 people that have exams and look out who is prayed for and who isn’t and who passess and who doesn’t, but it won’t prove anything with the possibility that some prayers are not to be answered, and that you can still pass even without one.
The only thing you can prove like this is that sometimes prayers def don’t work, but there will always be people that even pray for the sun to rise and won’t listen to the fact that dude, it raises by itself like every day. God is a being that can do anything to them, so if he felt like sun not rising one day it just wouldn’t rise cuz he can defy all physical and whatever laws in this world and it wouldn’t be a problem since all the laws kinda answer to him. On the other hand there are people that pray for the sun to NOT rise. And it’ll totally rise and they’ll reply with “WELL IT OBVIOUSLY WASN’T MEANT TO BE, God didn’t answer that one of my prayers”. You can show them gravity and physical laws and shit saying that Earth runs round the sun and it can’t just stop like that or whatever and they’ll look at you like you were the one being an idiot and say that all is possible for God. The thing is that in Christianity your faith can move mountains. You can’t prove that there isn’t some transcendental being that would totally stop that sun if they felt like it, but they don’t do it cuz they don’t feel like it or some other shit. You can’t prove that there was a sunrise not cause someone was praying for it to be (“cause maybe that being decided to stop the sun after all, but oh they got moved by that one human praying, so they decided for the world to go after all”). You can think it’s bullshit all you want, though, cause there def isn’t any proof that prayers work or that any of that godly beings exists. I totally believe that I was studying cause I wanted to, not cause my grandmother was praying for me to pass, for fuck’s sake, but the thing is no, you can’t prove it. No, “prayers don’t work” ISN’T a fact.
Go to people who had their prayers answered. Explain to them that it wasn’t their prayers that healed someone in their family, but people in hospital, doctors, whoever. They’ll go “well duh, but they managed to do it cause God heard my prayers!” And as long as it’s not proved otherwise, it’s legit belief.
And yup, I read the articles above. Someone can say ‘s Babel all over again, human wanted to study God this time and God said fuck you dude, you won’t be doing that and went deaf for those prayers. You got a proof it wasn’t like that?
Seriously, those studies seem kinda pointless to me cause people who believe will still believe, with tons of excuses you still can’t prove wrong, only those who don’t now have links handy to throw into believers’ faces. What’s kinda mean cuz religion doesn’t go by scientific laws! And God doesn’t either.
If someone wants to pray, let them fucking pray. Don’t tell them it doesn’t work since there really isn’t legit proof for that. Think it’s a bullshit like I do and let it go.
Transcendental beings and their influence on the world can’t be scientifically studied. If you want to study some sort of god you contradict yourself cause you have to assume it exists to actually make it a subject of your studies and if it exists in a form that people believe, it can influence your studies just to make fun of you. If you assume it doesn’t exist and want to prove it, well, good luck. I think most people agree it unfortunately can’t be done.
GAWD, so bored I’m writing esseys bout prayers.
